MJF Lion Kanchan Kumar Sahu

“Be the change that you wish to see in the world.” – Mahatma Gandhi

Born and raised in Garhwa, MJF Lion Kanchan Kumar Sahu truly embodies these timeless words. A paragon of selflessness, dedication and purposeful leadership, his journey in Lionism began in 1999 as a Leo in Garhwa. Since then, he has consistently emerged as a driving force for positive social transformation, serving with humility and unwavering commitment.

His deep concern for the environment translated into impactful action four years ago, when he led the plantation of 1,000 saplings on a barren hill alongside 1,000 school children. Today, that once lifeless landscape stands lush and green - a living testament to vision, perseverance and collective responsibility.

Service has always been the cornerstone of his life. Beginning his blood donation journey at the age of 19, he has donated blood an inspiring 84 times, offering hope and life to countless individuals. As the Charter Secretary of his club, he exemplified teamwork, integrity and quiet leadership. A strong advocate of social causes, he has actively championed the “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” initiative, promoting the education and empowerment of girls — a principle he proudly upholds in his personal life by recognizing his only daughter as his sole legal heir.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, his humanitarian service reached extraordinary heights. He facilitated the establishment of two mega oxygen plants at Sadar Hospital, initiated “Sita Rasoi” which served over 10,000 meals daily, and extended critical medical assistance to those in need. Through “Moksh,” an organization he founded, he ensured dignified cremations for more than 41 unclaimed individuals, restoring humanity even in the most challenging circumstances.

His contributions to healthcare development have been transformative. He played a key role in installing advanced medical facilities at Sadar Hospital, Garhwa—including Digital X-ray, USG machines, SNCU, and notably, a three-bed dialysis center that now serves over 500 patients every month. In recognition of his tireless efforts, he was honored with the prestigious COVID Warrior Award by the Government of Jharkhand.

He has also earned immense recognition through his work in various social organizations. Since 2018, he has been associated with Shree Mahaveer Mandal, Garhwa, where he currently serves as President. A firm believer in women empowerment, he created history by establishing the Mahila (Women’s) Branch of Mahaveer Mandal in Garhwa, providing women with a dedicated platform for participation and leadership. Under his guidance, along with his team, a grand procession was organized with participation from over 700–800 individuals, the majority being women—clearly reflecting his commitment to uplifting and empowering women.

Committed to continuous learning and leadership excellence, he successfully completed the Regional Lions Leadership Institute (RLLI) training at Mayfair Gopalpur and the Second Vice District Governor training in Kolkata, further strengthening his ability to serve at higher levels of responsibility.

A dedicated, compassionate, and hardworking leader, MJF Lion Kanchan Kumar Sahu continues to inspire the Lions fraternity with true spirit and purpose. His life is not merely about service—it is about creating sustainable change, nurturing hope, and leaving a lasting impact on humanity.
